There’s nothing like a girl dancing with a carrot swinging between her legs. Or rotating her hips and twirling tasseled pasties. Or bending backwards. In fishnets. And the sexy facial mugs and eyelash batting make it all a perfect parody — it’s fun and the guy next to me says he’d marry any one of those girls.

The “Exotica” show opens with vamp music — replete with bird-calls — playing loudly as the feathered performers strut onto the stage. As the tempo of the slow, seductive music speeds up, the veils start wiggling and the strip tease begins.

First the girls peel off their gloves, jiggle about, then lose their scarves. The audience — a perfect balance with female-female, male-male and female-male couples — is transfixed. Well, except for a few drunken gigglers hyped up by the host who, for the rest of the summer, will be Pearlene (Michael Duplessis).

There’s a rainstorm and Fanny n’ Flames moves under the lightening in a see-through umbrella and raincoat. When the sun breaks through, she loses piece after piece of clothing while a carrot dances between her legs. While “working” in the garden she playfully bites the tip off a cucumber and spits it across the stage.

Weldbourne says that burlesque is big in New York City and Los Angles and that the Bombshells came to Provincetown after being scouted at its weekly Seattle show. While the girls are used to performing everywhere and anywhere, the reaction and reception they have thus far received in Provincetown was most unusual. Weldbourne says that when the Bombshells are out in the street promoting their show, they hear tourists say, “‘Are they real girls? They’re real. Oh my god, they’re real!’”

And, above even that, the show is real burlesque. It’s over-the-top sexy fun for any adult crowd. When I tell Weldbourne my date’s response to the question posed about which girl he prefers — he says he’d marry any and all of them — she pauses for a moment.

“Good answer,” she decides.
